(Roach) I only went to the supermarket To buy a can of beans But I’ll never forget what I saw As I walked out through the wrong door There were men working under a red light Steam in the air and sweat on their faces There was blood all over the walls They were chopping and hacking at pieces of gore And how do you die with dignity? And how’d you like to stand in a queue? And maybe it sounds like heresy But don’t forget what happened to the Jews

(Burt) So many times I read the lines That tell the truth as seen by honest men They become what is real, what a man must feel if he’s to become part of this world of ours So you won’t see tomorrow if you cannot see today And you can’t just expect it all to go away And you won’t feel so clever when you’re on the never never And tomorrow’s here and you feel just like you did today

about

'The word stridulate means "to produce a shrill, grating sound, as a cricket does, by rubbing together certain parts of the body", which makes this one of the most aptly-chosen band names ever. Obscure, unsettling, mysterious, one of those unique artefacts with no apparent dotted lines to anything that came before. Sounds something like a cicada drone to a reptilian tom-tom beat, lyrics muttered in a bad dream. "Shrill" and "grating" it may be but not without a glorious pop heart that ascends through the humming insect drone'. - Source unknown

Originally released in 1984, remastered for this compilation.
